About
I was born and raised in Durban, South Africa, where my love for storytelling first took root. From an early age, I found myself drawn to the power of a good story, whether whispered in the hush of a church service, hidden in the lyrics of a song, or pulled from the shadows of my own imagination.
I’m a versatile writer, crafting tales across a wide range of genres. My short fiction navigates the dark corners of horror, the pulse-pounding tension of thrillers, the intricate turns of mystery, and the deep questions of theology. I move fluidly between forms, also writing poetry, songs, and the occasional fan fiction, always chasing the shape a story wants to take. My work is driven by curiosity, a love of the unexpected, and a belief that the best stories linger long after the final word.
Music runs alongside my writing as a second language. I play guitar and bass, and I sing, bringing a musician’s ear for rhythm and cadence to my prose. I’ve also spent years teaching guitar, both full-time in the past and occasionally now, and have long believed that the best way to truly understand something is to teach it. That philosophy shapes everything I do, whether I’m breaking down a chord progression or unpacking a piece of history.
Beyond writing and music, I’m also a small businessman and entrepreneur. I’ve learned that building something from the ground up—whether a story, a song, or a business—requires the same ingredients: curiosity, persistence, and a willingness to fail forward. The skills I’ve developed as an entrepreneur, problem-solving, adaptability, and seeing opportunities where others see obstacles, have deeply influenced how I approach my creative work.
That same curiosity drives the articles you’ll find here. I write regularly about the things that fascinate me, history, psychology, science, culture, and the oddities of the world. One day I might be exploring why men stopped wearing hats as an everyday accessory; the next, I’m unraveling the psychology of scams or asking whether the Dark Ages were truly dark. I’ve written about the secret lives of ants, the Japanese concept of ikigai, the strange true story of the Great Emu War, and how colors quietly shape our emotions. Whether I’m investigating “main character syndrome,” the habits of the wealthy, or a heroic pigeon named Cher Ami, my approach is the same: follow the question, dig into the details, and come back with something worth reading.
A private individual by nature, I let my work speak for itself. I draw inspiration from everywhere, the rich, vibrant life of Durban, the people I’ve met, the books and music that have shaped me, and the quiet moments in between. For me, creation is not something I choose to do; it’s simply who I am. When I’m not writing, teaching, or playing music, I’m likely lost in a book, chasing a new idea, or finding the next story waiting to be told.
